
Media minister calls for media clubs in all schools-Furkhan Bee elected new president of Sri Lanka Media Forum
COLOMBO: Minister of Mass Media Dullas Alahapperuma called for media clubs in all schools to encourage journalism among the students who are interested in the field.
The minister was speaking at the 25th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum (SLMMF held under the chairmanship of Alhaj N. M. Ameen at Al-Hidaya Maha Vidyalaya, Sri Sangaraja Mawatha, Colombo 12 on Saturday March 12.
Indian Lok Sabha Member Nawas Ghani was the guest-of-honour, while Dr. M. C. Rasmin delivered the keynote address on “Mass Media and the future of Muslim community”.
Commending the yeoman services rendered by the Sri Lanka Media Forum, the minister said that the youths must be focused in all its projects.
The research report on “A Critical Analysis of Labour Conditions faced by journalists in Sri Lanka carried out by the SLMMF in collaboration with the Federation of Media Employees Trade Union (FMETU), Free Media Movement (FMM), Sri Lanka Working Journalist Association (SLWJA), Sri Lanka Tamil Journalist Association (SLTJA), SAFMA Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Young Journalist Association (SLYJA) was also be launched during the AGM. The first copy of the report will be handed over to the Minister Alahapperuma as well as the heads of these media entities.
The 5th volume of Media Directory of SLMMF was launched during the AGM. The COVID-19 prevention guidelines recommended by the health sector officials were strictly followed during the event.
During the business meeting, Ameen who was the president of the Forum for the past 23 years gave way for senior journalist Furkhan Bee Niyas Ifthikar to succeed him,while Bishrin Mohammed was elected secretary and Shihar Anees was elected Treasurer along with a team of committee members.(Photos: ASM Javid and Ashraff A Samad)
