
COLOMBO : Thousands of Sri Lankans from all faiths joined the South Asian march for Solidarity with Palestine on Friday August 15th in Colombo to protests against the genocide in Gaza.
Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Pakistan, Philippines and Sri Lanka simultaneously marched together in their respective cities to express their solidarity.
Prior to the public rally at the Campbell Park, a public procession started from the the Kanatte roundabout and marched to the Campbell Park.
The participants were from coalition of all pro Palestine groups together, with one voice, for one common goal.‘NO MORE SILENCE! NO MORE SIEGE!
The protest called for an end to the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
Protesters were seen holding placards and banners displaying various messages, including the starvation of children in Gaza.They further urged Israel to stop bombing Palestine, voicing solidarity with Gaza.
The participating team includes the Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine, National People’s Power, Socialist Youth Union, Frontline Socialist Party, Free Palestine Movement, along with
several other organizations and individual activists.
In a moving speech, deputy speaker Dr Rizvie Saleh said that the world cannot tolerate anymore the genocide in the Gaza and the premeditated plan to make the people die of starvation. “ We want a stop for genocide and allow the starving people to have their food without making them suffer anymore ,”he added.
