Marked Price : Pulse Oximeter for Rs 3,000 only

COLOMBO : The maximum retail price for a Pulse Oximeter will be set at Rs.3,000. Production, Supply and Distribution of Pharmaceuticals State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana said the relevant gazette notification will be issued soon to keep the maximum retail price of a pulse oximeter at Rs.3,000.

With the spread of COVID-19 disease, currently, there is a huge demand for pulse oximeters, digital thermometers and oxygen concentrators.

During a meeting held yesterday at the State Ministry, Prof. Jayasumana instructed officials to strictly consider the quality of the products when granting permission to the importers to import these medical types of equipment and also to constantly monitor those products.

The State Minister further inform them to take necessary legal action against those who have imported fake equipment to the country without approval. If there are such machines brought into the country without proper permission, the Minister instructed to take them into the custody of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).

Only five brands of oximeters have been approved and the registered suppliers and their brands are displayed on the website of the NMRA website. State Ministry Secretary Dr. Saman Ratnayake, NMRA Chairman Dr.Rasitha Wijewantha, CEO Dr. Kamal Jayasinghe,Price Regulatory Committee Chairman Dr. Palitha Abeykoon, Chief Engineer of the Biomedical Engineering Unit of the Health Ministry S.A.J. Karunatilake also participated in this meeting.
