COLOMBO(News1st) : What began as a day of celebration ended in unimaginable heartbreak for a family returning home from a wedding celebration in Veyangoda.
A joyous occasion turned into tragedy when a van carrying family members home after a wedding reception met with a serious accident near the Magalegoda-Naiwala road, leaving two people dead and seven others injured.
Among those killed were the brother of the bride, who was driving the van, and the family’s grandmother, according to police.
Police revealed that a total of nine people, including the bride’s parents, were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the fatal accident.
