COLOMBO: The Mahanayaka Theros of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters have called upon President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to lock down the country for a week to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In a joint letter to the President, the most venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thero,Mahanayake of Malwatte Chapter and the most venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero, Mahanayake of the Asgiriya have highlighted the urgency of imposing a weeklong lockdown to have a control over the fast spread of the pandemic.
Mahanayaka Theros have pointed out that the spread of COVID-19 has brought upon a disaster situation with mutations of the virus also spreading across the country.
Therefore, they have requested the President to act on the recommendations and advice of the health experts to protect the lives of the people and provide relief to them when the country is placed in lock down for a week.
