MADAWELA: The Annual Prize Giving Ceremony 2026 of Madawala Madina National School was held with great dignity and pride in the presence of students, parents, teachers, distinguished guests, and members of the school community.
The event was graced by Dr. Faiz Musthapha, P.C., Chancellor of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka who was the former Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, as the Chief Guest with his wife Ameena .
His presence carried special significance for the people of Madawala. Dr. Faiz Musthapha proudly traces his roots to Madawala, a village renowned for producing eminent professionals and community leaders. His family has made an extraordinary contribution to Sri Lanka’s legal profession for generations. His father, son and doughter Dr. Faiz Musthapha himself, and his son and Doghter have all served with as President’s Counsel, a remarkable achievement that reflects one of the country’s most respected legal family traditions.
During his visit, the Chief Guest also paid homage to the school mosque, which was constructed through his generous contribution in 1986, reaffirming his long-standing bond with the school and the Madawala community. The people of Madawala sincerely hope that his continued guidance and support will further contribute to the advancement of the school and the village.
The ceremony was further enhanced by distinguished education officials and special guests, who congratulated the award recipients and encouraged students to pursue excellence in education, leadership, sports, and character.
Madina National School has established itself as one of Sri Lanka’s leading Muslim national schools. Over nine decades, (1935-2026) it has produced thousands of intellectuals, academics, educationists, professionals, administrators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who continue to serve the nation and beyond.
The school has also earned an outstanding reputation in sports, producing numerous national-level athletes while establishing itself as a Division I Rugby School, competing among the country’s finest rugby-playing schools.
The institution is equally proud of its rich cadeting tradition. Notably, Madina National School is believed to be the only Muslim school in Sri Lanka with an Eastern Cadet Band, a unique distinction that reflects its commitment to discipline, leadership, and national service. As a proud alumnus, I had the honour of serving as the First Cadet Sergeant of Madina National School in 1979, a milestone that remains a cherished part of the school’s history.Awards and certificates were presented to students who excelled in academics, sports, co-curricular activities, leadership, and other fields. Every award symbolised dedication, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence Madina National School continues to shape future leaders while preserving its proud legacy of excellence in education, sports, leadership, and community service.
