London-based Council of Sri Lankan Muslim Organisations (COSMOS) picks officials

LONDON: The 8th Annual General Meeting of Council of Sri Lankan Muslim Organisations (COSMOS) in United Kingdom was held on 19 September from 05.00p.m to 8.00p.m at Sri Lankan Muslim Cultural Centre (SLMCC) in Harrow.

The members of 15 affiliated organizations to the COSMOS and their nominated representatives and past presidents Mubarak Jainulabdeen and Rizwan Wahab along with many community leaders and members of UK based organisations attended AGM which had been organized via Zoom technology..

The outgoing President Liyas Abdul Wahid highlighted the progress and the achievements the COSMOS made during his tenure. 

Wahid said that when the Muslims in Sri Lanka met with tragedies in the past the COSMOS took steps to solve them bringing to the attention of British Government. 

“Until the justice was reached regarding the forcible cremation of COVID 19 infected bodies of Muslims in Sri Lanka the COSMOS urged the Government to respect the religious rights of a minority community”, according to outgoing President Wahid.

During the AGM the office bearers of COSMOS for the next two years were appointed.

Shakeer Nawas as President, Sifan Nayeem as General Secretary, Adil Sardardeen as Vice President, Akram Abdul Azeez as Treasurer, Haseen Mohamed Naheem as Assistant Secretary and Ubaid Zainul Abdeen as Assistant Treasurer.
