COLOMBO: Another successful 59th Charter Ceremony of the Lions Club of Colombo West was held on 31st March 2026 at the Grand Oriental Hotel in a glamorous setting.
The event was led by Charter Chairman, Lion A.H.M. Maheer MAF, JP. In his welcome address, he emphasized the importance of maintaining unity, which has sustained the club’s service over the past 59 years.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was District Governor, Lion Priyantha Perera PMJF of District 306. The First and Second Vice District Governors were also present. Regional Chairpersons, Zone Chairpersons, Cabinet Officials, and Past District Governors attended the event.
Club President, Lion Manel Gamage, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the successful projects carried out during the year. She expressed her gratitude to all members for their continuous support and made special mention of Lion Kanchana Udalagama and Lion Manilal Ranasinghe for their valuable contributions to numerous projects.
Chief Guest Lion Priyantha Perera commended the club’s activities and achievements during the year and presented souvenirs to members who attained MJF status.
Lion Nuwan Ballanthuduwa PMCC had the honour of inducting three new members and praised the club for its continued growth and progress.
The Club Secretary, Lion Srimathie Kodikara, conducted the Necrology Ceremony in remembrance of members who had passed away.
Lion Shiranie de Silva, who compered the entire programme, proposed the resolution to the District Governor, which was seconded by Lion A.H.M. Maheer.
Lion Ranjith Kodikara and Lion Thimira Rajapakshe introduced the members of the Head Table and the District Governor, respectively.
Lion A.S.M. Illiyas delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing appreciation to all guests and participants.
The programme concluded with President Lion Manel Gamage inviting all attendees to fellowship and dinner.
