COLOMBO – The Law Students’ Muslim Majlis of Sri Lanka Law College, in collaboration with the Supreme Chamber of Youth Governance (SCY-GOV), successfully organised “Law for Young Minds,” a legal awareness programme exclusively for school students.
The programme was held on Saturday August 22 at the Abegunaratnana Community Centre Auditorium.
The initiative aimed to promote legal awareness among school students by introducing them to fundamental aspects of law, their rights and responsibilities, justice and the importance of responsible citizenship.
The programme was organised under the leadership of Aadhil Amhar, President of the Law Students’ Muslim Majlis, and Umair Nawshad, Supreme National Chairman of SCY-GOV. The initiative received the active support and participation of the SCY-GOV leadership, Governing Council members and coordinators.
Izza Fowzin, General Secretary of the Law Students’ Muslim Majlis, also played an important role in the organisation of the programme. Shahama Izzadeen, Assistant Secretary of the Law Students’ Muslim Majlis and Legal Affairs Governor of SCY-GOV, coordinated the programme and played a major role in its successful organisation.
Zamil Shafeek, National General Secretary of SCY-GOV, joined the SCY-GOV leadership in supporting the initiative. Members of the SCY-GOV Governing Council and coordinating team also participated in the programme, contributing to its successful execution.
The active involvement of the SCY-GOV leadership, Governing Council members and coordinators reflected the organisation’s commitment to youth empowerment, civic education and promoting legal awareness among the younger generation.
The event was graced by Khairul Iskandar bin Md Yusof, Counsellor of the High Commission of Malaysia in Colombo, as the Chief Guest. Hakim Hashim, Director of H&D Asia International (Pvt) Ltd, attended as the Guest of Honour.
Among the distinguished guests were Dr. I.Y.M. Haniff, President of J.J. Foundation and President of the Kolonawa Masjids Federation , Razmi Rafeek, Chief Advisor of SCY-GOV; and Irfan Nasoordeen, Senior Journalist and Advisor to SCY-GOV.
The presence of senior professionals, youth leaders, legal representatives and members of the organising and governing teams added significance to the programme, providing students with an opportunity to gain valuable insights into law, leadership, civic responsibility and justice.
“Law for Young Minds” reflects the organisers’ commitment to building a legally aware and socially responsible younger generation. By introducing students to the importance of law and justice at an early stage, the programme sought to empower them to better understand their rights, responsibilities and role in society.
