COLOMBO : The book launching ceremony of the debut novel, ‘Maybe They Won’t’ by the 20-year novelist and poet Abdhulla Azmin of Mawanella was held at the Tulip Hall of the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, (BMICH) on Tuesday 28.05.2024.
The ceremony started at 3:30pm with the chairmanship of the Retired Wing Commander Deshamani M.H.M. Shifa. He welcomed all the invitees on behalf his family and briefly explained how the young writer that is his nephew worked consistently archive this feat expressed his felicitations to him.
A.R.V. Loshan, the Independent Journalist and the Media Analyst who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest highly praised the young prodigy, the author of this fiction Abdhulla Azmin for his extraordinary writing skills superb talent along with the deep dedication in composing his maiden novel the thriller. In his address, Loshan reminded the perseverance along with commitment always get us success in any venture and young adult Abdullah has proved it and the author had tirelessly written it. He further added parental guidance and his self-motivation under trying condition had paid dividends for the blooming of the standard English fiction that qualitatively stands erect with the fictions of internationally reputed English authors.
The Special guest of this momentous occasion, The President of the Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum (SLMMF) N M Ameen was overwhelmed to see that a masterpiece was created by Abdhulla who incidentally is his nephew. He pointed out that getting a book published in Sri Lanka is a Herculean task as the cost of writing and printing materials had gone by many folds. As a token of appreciation Abdhulla was draped the Golden Shawl by Ameen.
This novel that is largely related to complexities of the life of the young adults of the society was closely analyzed for the evaluation by three reputed resource persons, the Principal of Zahira College Trizvi Marikkar, Master Teacher for English Language for the Zonal Education Office of Puttalam, Mrs. Fathima Riskiya, English Journalist and Lecturer, Mr. N.U. Abdul Razzak Udayar under different perspectives such as, Contemporary Fiction Writing, Literature, Language Features etc. The Stand-Up Comedian, Taniya Lewwanduwage, Novelist, Ms. Dhulee Rushani Carmel and Lecturer, A, Afrath Nawas also addresses under different topics evaluating and appreciating the wonderful work of Abdhulla Azmin. Abdhulla’s best friend Basith and his sister Asma Azmin shared their their views about their brother’s achievement.
Abdhulla, the past student of Baduriya National School of Mawanella thanked his teachers of his alma mata by giving momentoes. In his acknowledgement, he thanked his beloved parents, siblings, close relatives, friends, teachers and others who extended their helping hand to make his mission of composing this cherished fiction. His mother Sana proposed the Vote of Thanks.
