Lankan president pledges to treat all communities equally and fairly- Minister Naseer Ahamed

COLOMBO: The President has agreed to treat all ethnic groups in the island justly and equally, Environment Minister Naseer Ahmed told Colombo Times on Tuesday, May 16

Minister Ahmed has requested the president that Muslim parties should also  be included in all power-sharing negotiations.

Minister Ahmed, who participated in the President’s talks with the Tamil parties, also said that it was necessary to find solutions to the ethnic problem in such a way that no communities are treated unfairly.

Three cabinet ministers participated in the meeting chaired  by the President with the Tamil parties.

“ Muslims also face similar problems faced by the Tamil-speaking communities in the North and East.  Muslims are also predominantly affected  in war-torn areas.  Therefore, it is necessary to guarantee the lost lands, the reserves, and the identity of the Muslims.  This should be confirmed in the solution of the ethnic problem. It is necessary that the Muslim parties are also invited in the future talks to convey the sentiments  to the Tamil parties.
