COLOMBO – The Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs had organized a Religious Programme on the Islamic New Year ( Muharram ) .
Celebration was held at the Masjid Al Maqbool ( Memon Hanafi Masjid ) Wellawatte, Colombo on July Thursday 20.
It was held under the patronage of Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Faizal Abdeen.
Buddhasasana, Culture and Religious Affairs Minister Vidura Wickramanayake graced the ceremony as a chief guest.
Masjid Al Maqbool Trustee Hafiz Ehsan Iqbal Qadiri addressed the gathering in English and Tamil languages on the significance of Islamic New Year Muharram and Hafiz Thameem Patel and Hafiz Furqan Mayari sang the Qaseedah.
Member of the Board of Tribunal A.A.M. ILyas (President Counsel) presented memento to the Minister Vidura Wickramanayake at this ceremony.
Ministry of Buddhasasana, Culture and Religious Affairs Secretary Somaratne Vidanapathirana, Wakfs Board Chairman Mohideen Hussain, Hajj Committee Chairman Ibrahim Ansar, Former Deputy Mayor of Colombo M.T.M. Iqbal, Programme Coordinator Ash Sheikh Mufthi Mursi, Member of the Board of Wakfs Mufti Mustafa Raza Qadiri Misbahi and Department Senior Officials were also present.
