COLOMBO: The Urban Development Authority has decided to offer 10% discount to those who buy housing in US dollars from middle income housing projects built by the Urban Development authority.

Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranathunga said that the facilities given to buy these houses with dollars for Sri Lankans who are working in abroad.

He also noted that this new method was introduced as a solution to the country’s existing dollar crisis. Two middle-income housing projects operated by the Urban Development Authority have currently completed. These housing flats at Borella Oval View housing project includes 608 units of housing, while the Angoda Lakerest project includes 500 housing units.

12 more middle income housing projects are currently under construction. in the Colombo District And the housing requirement that fulfills is 3,667 units of housing. The Urban Development Authority has received the approval of the Management Board to facilitate the purchase of these houses who are working in abroad only Sri Lankans and workers to buy only with dollars.

Minister Prasanna Ranathunga further noted that the attention has been given to foreign workers who have been formally deployed by banks to get these houses with dollars. The minister also noted that the middle income earners housing projects planned by the Urban Development Authority

Construction of 4,074 units of apartment units continues with Asian Infrastructure and Investment Bank loans. The minister said he is expected to continue the housing project planned to implement for families living in low-income habitats, utilizing 552 million yuan, which is expected to be a major in China. He also said that five projects with 2000 house units will be implemented in Peliyagoda, Moratuwa, Dematagoda, Maharagama and Kottawa.
