Lankan cricket commentator dies on the playing field in Jeddah

COLOMBO — A well known cricket commentator M.M.M. Naushad passed away at the age of 57 at Jeddah Saudi Arabia on Friday December 29.

He died when he was playing the Old Zahirians Cricket Tournament which was held at the SLT Grounds, Jeddah.  This tournament was played among the Zahirians staying in Jeddah every year representing Angora, Baghdad, Cordova and Istanbul houses .Naushad played for Baghdad house.

Marhoom Naushad has been working from 1999 for more than 20 years in Jeddah. When he died he was attached as a Purchasing Officer at Red Sea Maritime Services, Jeddah

His native place is Mohideen Masjid Road, Maradana, Colombo and  he is a father of  three boys and one daughter.  

His brother Mohamed Fahim told Colombo Times that Naushad’s family has already left  for Jeddah for the final funeral arrangements.

Sri Lankan Consul General in Jeddah told Colombo Times from Saudi Arabia that his death was untimely. ” I went to see the cricket matches and saw him just one hour before his death. he saw me off at the grounds since I was leaving for another function”
