Lankan activist suffered without food,water for 3 days under brutish Israeli army

COLOMBO — Sameera Mehboobdeen, the on Sri Lankan activist who was detained by Israeli forces during the Sumud Flotilla mission, said here that she was held inside a container and detained continuously for three days without food or water.

Sameera was addressing a press conference on Tuesday, May 26 in Colombo .

According to her, the group was intercepted in international waters near Cyprus and remained without communication for four days.

She further alleged that the soldiers used abusive language and subjected members of the mission to physical assault, causing severe facial and internal injuries. Sameera also said that she was asked to remove her hijab, which she refused to do. She claimed that the soldiers used guns and dogs to intimidate those on board.

Speaking emotionally, Sameera said that such actions showed a lack of humanity and urged the media to expose what she described as the behaviour of the Israeli forces. She called on people around the world to stand in solidarity with Palestine, stressing that Palestinians continue to suffer every minute and every day.

She also thanked the Sri Lankan Government, the Foreign Ministry, and Palestinian Ambassador Fawzer Farook for taking the necessary action to secure her release.

The Free Palestine Movement organised the media briefing at the Palestine Embassy in Colombo on Tuesday, May 26, regarding the alleged abduction and detention of Sameera Mehboobdeen by Israeli forces.

Sameera joined the international humanitarian campaign aimed at delivering urgently needed aid and medical supplies to the people of Gaza.
