COLOMBO – Kuwait Airways, the national carrier of the State of Kuwait, has announced that it will increase its Colombo operations to daily flights from July 2026, marking a significant milestone in its long-standing commitment to Sri Lanka and responding to the strong growth in passenger demand between the two countries.
Having first launched services to Colombo on 15 October 1978, Kuwait Airways has remained one of the longest-serving international airlines in Sri Lanka. For nearly five decades, the airline has played a vital role in connecting Sri Lanka with Kuwait and the wider Gulf region, supporting tourism, trade, business travel, and thousands of Sri Lankan expatriate workers.
The introduction of daily services is expected to deliver greater convenience and flexibility for travellers, particularly the large Sri Lankan workforce in Kuwait. The enhanced schedule will provide seamless point-to-point connectivity, shorter travel times, improved travel planning, and more reliable baggage handling through direct operations between Colombo and Kuwait City.
The additional frequency is also expected to strengthen economic ties between Sri Lanka and Kuwait by facilitating increased business travel, tourism, cargo movement, and people-to-people connections.
Sudesh Rupasinghe, Head of Kuwait Airways – Sri Lanka & Maldives, welcomed the announcement, saying:
“I sincerely thank the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and the Management of Kuwait Airways for their vision, confidence, and continued support in approving daily flights to Colombo. This decision demonstrates the airline’s long-term commitment to the Sri Lankan market, and we look forward to serving our customers with even greater convenience and connectivity.”
The introduction of daily flights further reinforces Kuwait Airways’ commitment to Sri Lanka and reflects the airline’s confidence in the continued growth of travel demand between the two nations.
