KUWAIt : Operations at the Kuwait International Airport resumed normal flight operations on Saturday after authorities reopened the country’s airspace, allowing international arrivals and departures to gradually return following a temporary suspension prompted by regional security developments.
Airlines immediately began restoring schedules, while airport authorities worked to clear the backlog of delayed flights.
The reopening saw the arrival of several international flights, including services operated by Jazeera Airways, Air India Express, Kuwait Airways and other regional carriers, signaling a steady return to normal air traffic.
The arrivals included flights from destinations across the Gulf, India and neighboring countries as aircraft that had been delayed or diverted were cleared to land.
On the departure side, flight operations also resumed in phases, with airlines dispatching aircraft once clearance was granted by aviation authorities.
Among the services affected by the earlier disruption were Kuwait Airways flights to Manchester and Alexandria, both of which departed approximately five hours behind schedule as the airline worked through the operational backlog created by the temporary airspace closure.
The temporary closure had forced airlines to suspend, delay or divert numerous flights as a precautionary measure amid heightened regional tensions.
Thousands of passengers experienced disruptions before the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) authorized the phased reopening of Kuwaiti airspace following a review of the security situation.
Airport authorities said flight operations are being restored in a phased manner, with priority given to delayed and diverted aircraft.
Although services have resumed, airlines cautioned that some flights may continue to experience schedule adjustments as aircraft and crews are repositioned.
Passengers have been advised to check the latest flight status with their respective airlines before travelling to the airport.
The resumption of arrivals and departures marks a significant step towards restoring normal connectivity for Kuwait, particularly for thousands of expatriates and business travelers who rely on the country’s extensive regional and international air links.
With airlines gradually returning to their regular schedules, airport operations are expected to stabilize over the coming hours, although authorities will continue to closely monitor the evolving regional security situation.Kuwait Times
