COLOMBO : The KPMG Sri Lanka Academy presents the 28th virtual session of the “Friday Mid-Afternoon Chat” series. This week’s webinar will be on “Financial Restructuring in times of crisis” conducted by Mr. Ajantha Weerasekara – Principal, Advisory at KPMG in Sri Lanka.
The financial stresses of the COVID-19 pandemic have extended across every sector of the economy. Previously healthy businesses are suddenly coming under acute financial pressure and not so healthy ones are facing imminent bankruptcy if not for government support. Collections are getting delayed, payments are being pushed by suppliers. And in this equation, companies with poor balance sheet structures, high operational leverage and slow and reactive management response time, have faced severe issues. Most of these companies will not survive without some degree of immediate financial restructuring, coupled with certain medium to long term measures. In the midst of this crisis, some companies are not just surviving, but thriving. There are lessons to be learnt from these companies, their management practices, leverage management strategies, etc.
During this session, we will briefly explore the concepts of financial restructuring, how companies become distressed, early signs of distress and how to get out of it when you are in distress.
The session is scheduled for the 1st of October (Friday) from 3.00 PM onwards.
