
KUALA LUMPUR Sri Lanka’s Envoy to Malaysia High Commissioner Dharshana M Perera presented his Letter
of Credence to His Majesty King Sultan Ibrahim at a stately ceremony held on Monday, 18
May 2026, at the Istana Negara (The Royal Palace) in Kuala Lumpur.
During the ceremonial audience at the historic Dewan Singgahsana Kecil (Throne Room) of the
Palace, the High Commissioner conveyed His Excellency President Anura Kumara
Disanayaka’s greetings and good wishes for the health and well-being of His Majesty King
Sultan Ibrahim and for peace and prosperity of the Malaysian people. In response, the King
conveyed his greetings and good wishes to President Disanayaka and for the progress of the
people of Sri Lanka.
The King reflected on Malaysia’s long-standing relations with Sri Lanka since 1957, observing
that the two countries have made significant efforts in enhancing cooperation across various
sectors, including the economy and defence. Further, the King observed that exchange of
high-level visits in recent years has demonstrated firm commitment to strive further for closer
cooperation in areas of mutual interest between Sri Lanka and Malaysia. He also recalled his
enriching experience with Sri Lanka prior to his ascension to the Federal Monarchy.
High Commissioner Perera expressed Sri Lanka’s commitment to further advance the
multifaceted relationship with Malaysia and to further elevate the deep and abiding friendship
including through engagement at the highest level. The King conveyed to the High
Commissioner good wishes for a pleasant and successful tour of duty in Malaysia.
Earlier, upon arrival at Istana Negara, High Commissioner Perera received the General Salute
accorded by the Regiment Askar Malayan Diraja (Royal Prestige Guards) – the principle
ceremonial regiment for Malaysia’s Royal processions.
High Commissioner Dharshana M Perera is a career diplomat. During his 30-year diplomatic
career, he has served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Sweden as well as Scandinavian & Nordic
countries and Indonesia & ASEAN. He has served in other diplomatic positions at Sri Lanka
Embassies/Missions in Rome, Moscow, Bangkok, New York and Washington, D.C.
