The Kandy Muslim Traders Association (KMTA) was established on July 11, 1993, with the participation of over 300 businessmen from the vibrant city of Kandy.

Initiated by Al Haj A.M. Ismail in collaboration with esteemed business professionals and influential

figures from Kandy, the inception of Kandy Muslim Traders Association (KMTA) marked a proactive response to the challenges encountered by Muslim businessmen in the region during that period.

As time progressed, KMTA transcended its original objectives, transforming into an organization that not

only addresses the concerns of Muslim businessmen but also serves as a representative voice for the community at large. This evolution has earned KMTA recognition and respect from both governmental and non-governmental entities.

Remarkably, KMTA has emerged as a substantial presence in official gatherings, serving as a  representative entity for the community in engagements with the Kandy Municipal Council, Police, District Secretariat, and various other official assemblies. This role underscores the association’s unwavering commitment to actively engage and contribute to the broader socio-economic and civic  landscape of Kandy.
