COLOMBO : A Felicitation Ceremony was held on 14th November 2025 to proudly honour the achievements of Shafiya Yamik who secured three Gold Medals during the recently concluded 4th South Asian Athletics Championships 2025 held in Ranchi, India.
This momentous event celebrated Triple Gold Medalist Shafiya Yamik for her remarkable feats. She secured the gold in 100 m by setting up a new meet record, and was hailed as “South Asia’s fastest woman”, also clinching gold medals in 200 m and 4 x 100m relay events.
The ceremony was held under the esteemed patronage of Hon. Prof. S.B.S. Abayakoon. Governor of Central Province.
Also in attendance were Commissioner of Kandy Municipal Council Mrs Indika Abeyratne, Pakistan Consul General Mr Afzal Marikkar. Others Present included religious scholars, high ranking officers of the Army, Police, Government Heads and Academics.
President and Members from Trade Associations and Chamber of Commerce, other Distinguished Invitees including the family Members of Shafiya Yamick and other dignitaries were present at this event held at
the Newly Opened, Hotel Royal Avenue Kandy.
This event was organized by the Kandy Muslim Traders’ Association, under the leadership of its President M.Hafeel Saleemdeen , former National President of All Ceylon YMMA Conference.
