Islamic religious observance at Red Mosque to mark 76th Independence Day

COLOMBO : Islamic Religious observance to celebrate 76th Independence Day at the Historical Red Mosque called for unity in diversity to conquer the challenges and build a stronger , inclusive and a more prosperous nation.

The religious ceremony to invoke the blessings of the Almighty Allah was organized by the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs headed by Faisal Abdeen after Fajr prayers at dawn on Sunday Feb 4 at the Red mosque in Pettah.

The event commenced with the unfurling of the national flag by Foreign Minister Ali Sabry in the presence of Uva Governor A J M Muzammil,parliamentarian A H M Fowziee, Hajj Committee Chairman Ibrahim Ansar, Chairman Haj and Unrah Travel Operators Association Rizmy Reyal, members of the management committee of the Red Mosque and General Secretary if the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama Arkam Noor Ahmith. 

In his brief speech, Sabry recalled the role played by Sri Lankan Muslims in winning the independence from colonial rule. ” Muslim leaders  like late T B Jayah had played a predominant role in the struggle for making Sri Lanka as an independent nation.”

Sabry also stressed Sri Lanka’s firm commitment towards the Palestinian cause and also called for united efforts take Sri Lanka to better heights.
