
COLOMBO — The Muslim Majlis of Muslim Ladies’ College, Colombo 04, hosted its 52nd Annual Islamic Day on Tuesday, April 7. The event was held under the meaningful theme “Ash-Shukr” — the essence of gratitude — serving as a heartfelt reminder to recognize and appreciate the countless blessings in our lives.
The occasion was graced by an audience of distinguished guests. The Chief Guest was Mohamed Ismail Famy, Chairman of Technocity (Pvt) Ltd, while the Guest of Honour was Ms. Rumeysa Akcin, Third Secretary to the Embassy of Turkey in Sri Lanka. The Guest Speaker, Dr. Inthikab Zuffer, Senior Lecturer at IMC – AIC University and former Lecturer at the University of Colombo, delivered an guest speech.
Also in attendance were Madam Principal Mrs. Nasriya Munas, Principal of the Muslim Ladies College, Ahmed Sahabdeen Najeeb, Deputy Director of the Tamil Unit at the Provincial Education Department, Ministry of Education; Mrs. Mumthaz Begum, Deputy Director of the Zonal Education Office, Colombo and Principal of Fathima Muslim Ladies College; along with other distinguished invitees.
The gathering was warmly welcomed by Sister Aazima Azhar, President of the Muslim Majlis. The event celebrated the achievements of students of Muslim Ladies’ College, who were awarded for their outstanding performances at the 52nd Annual Islamic Day Competitions. Recognition was also given to students who excelled at the All-Island Muslim Cultural Competitions organized by the Ministry of Education.
In addition, winners of the 52nd Annual Inter-School Islamic Day Competitions were honoured. Fathima Muslim Ladies College emerged as the Champions, while Zahira College secured the position of First Runners-Up.
The ceremony concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Muneer Safiya, Secretary of the Muslim Majlis, marking the end of the event.
