COLOMBO: There had been widely circulated news on our High Commissioner in New Delhi having cordial discussion with the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) supported with a picture as well. Up to now, it has not been denied or corrected by the High Commission or the Ministry of External Affairs. Hence it can be taken as authentic.
Ambassadors and High Commissioners are empowered with wide powers and authority on behalf of the representing country. However, he/she act conforming to the national policies, moral and ethics of the nation. In this regard he/ she functions within certain some limitations and sense of responsibility.
Ambassadors carrier or otherwise go through a well-developed training at the Ministry of External Affairs. That training covers all aspects of administrative, financial functions and more over the national; In short national ethos. While that is the broad assignment the ambassadors are also expected to keep their eyes and years opened on the interests, social cultural, geopolitical aspects in a confidential (secretive ) manner. An ambassador is expected to gather information relating the country he/she where is represent .
These findings are confidential communicated to the Ministry by way of ‘ Political Reports’. These are not for public consumption.
In this instance our HC has met the chief of RSS and shared his views drawing parallel to Buddhism and Hinduism. Needless to say that there are several virtues and commonalties of these major religions. But comparing RSS to Buddhism causes sadness and it is unthinkable. RSS is considered a Terrorist organization. To quote one sauce “ RSS is Number one Terrorist Group as declared by Bombay Police” It is common knowledge that RSS was formed in 1927 and it is charged that it was one of their members killed Mahatma Gandhi. Justification provided for that act was to uphold the ‘Hunduthwa’ principle.
How one could explain the behavior of our High Commissioner. Ether the training given to the High Commissioner is faulty or he is acting to an agenda of his own to satisfy the interest of other forces. In any the case, it is not acceptable to Sri Lanka. We are striving to be a peaceful nation, protecting Buddhism as part of it. We have had enough troubles by the intervention of forces. Enough is enough!!!.
Now this matter is so serious what the government should do. It naturally falls in the purview of the Ministry of External Affairs. The Hon. Minister Professor G. L Peiris knows well all about it. He knows how to deal with it. He has handled it in the past as well. When he was Minister of Foreign Affairs, last time one ambassador whom he had handpicked, after retirement from the service was terminated his assignment and recalled. The ambassador concerned, at the Heads of Mission discussion asked some embarrassing questions and argued with Minister Peiris. That was the cause for the minister to promptly take decision and recall him. Prof. Peiris knows the theory and practice of diplomacy very well.
The country is going through economic crisis at an unprecedented scale. On the top of it we have the UNHCR accusing us of various charges. For the first time in the history an Arch Bishop is taking us the case against the nation with the support of the Pope.
Cardinals mission is that the state not taking positive steps in investigating on the Easter Sunday attack. It is also widely spoken and deeply written on the issue that there had been a hand in the attack by an Indian agency. With all these background, is it needed to bring RSS and compare its concept and character to Hinduism and compare with the character of Buddhism. Is it diplomacy? God save our Nation.
