COLOMBO – Ali Kebriaei Zadeh, Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sri Lanka, met with Gihan De Silva, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) on Friday July 31 and Muthilal Tissala, Director of the International Affairs Division of the Corporation, to discuss ways of expanding media and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Gihan De Silva referred to the long-standing relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Sri Lanka and reflected on the historical roots of friendship between the peoples of the two nations.
Describing Iran’s film industry as highly developed, technically advanced, and guided by strong ethical values, he noted that these qualities have made Iranian films widely appreciated by Sri Lankan audiences. He added that the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation has enjoyed a valuable and successful history of cooperation with the Cultural Counsellorship of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and emphasized that this partnership should not only continue but also be further strengthened.
For his part, Ali Kebriaei Zadeh praised the warmth, kindness, and hospitality of the Sri Lankan people towards Iranians and highlighted the considerable potential for expanding bilateral media and cultural cooperation. He noted that the Cultural Counsellorship has received growing interest from Sri Lankan scholars, intellectuals, and the general public who wish to gain a deeper understanding of Iran’s history, culture, scientific achievements, and rich civilization.
Responding to this interest, Kebriaei Zadeh stated that the Cultural Counsellorship is ready to provide the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation with a broad range of audiovisual materials, including documentary films introducing contemporary Iranian society, culture, science, and technological achievements. He also proposed cooperation in broadcasting programmes on Iranian traditional music from both artistic and technical perspectives, as well as screening Iranian feature films, animated productions, and educational and entertainment programmes for children and young audiences.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of translating their discussions into practical initiatives through regular and systematic follow-up. They agreed that designated representatives from both institutions would continue consultations and coordinate the implementation of the agreed areas of cooperation.
