International Women’s Day : IMRA awards to outstanding women in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: The All Ceylon Muslim Women’s Association in association with the Denara Training Institute conducted an IMRA Awards ceremony at the

Lotus Ballroom, of the Shangri-la Hotel, Colombo to celebrate the International Women’s Day in Colombo.

The event was conceptualised and convened by Fathima Aziz, Director, Denara Training Institute.

The event celebrated the notable achievement of Muslim Women who have been a source of inspiration and service to the Community at large. In initiating a Biennial Awards Ceremony, it was proposed to raise awareness by highlighting the outstanding achievements of inspirational women for their willingness to rise to the occasion, demonstrate exemplary drive and put forth phenomenal efforts to better the community. It is proposed to recognise the achievement of Muslim women in the following fields:

The Keynote Speaker at the event was Deshamanya Radhika Coomaraswamy who served as the Under Secretary General of the United Nations , Special Representative for Children in armed conflict. She gave away two of the Awards.

There were 84 Applications received by Edu Consult and was forwarded to KPMG, who were the Knowledge Partner to the event.The short listed candidates were interviewed by an independent group of distinguished Judges. Chairman, of the panel of judges was Mr. Faisal Salieh, Chairman, SEC. He was supported by Mrs. Anoji De Silva, Partner Ernst & Young; Mrs. Sandra De Zoysa, Group Chief Customer Officer of Dialog Axiata; Mr. Dhara Wijayatialke, Attorney at Law, Chairperson of the Office for Reparation in Sri Lanka and Ms. Sharmila Panditaratne, Legal Office SEC.and Mrs. Nayana Karunaratne,WCIC. Mr. Faisal Salieh and Ms. Sandra De Zoysa, gave away some of the Awards.

The Master of Ceremonies was Mr. Adam Adamally PC and the event was Co-ordinated by Funtime Productions. The Hospitality Partner was Shangri-La , Colombo.
