International Airlines Operating in Sri Lanka, national carrier, advised to waive all charges of tourists affected by the adverse weather conditions

COLOMBO – The ministry of ports and civil aviation has issued a directive pursuant to a request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, concerning significant disruptions to tourist travel due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions across Sri Lanka that a considerable number of foreign tourists are stranded and facing severe difficulties,
including an inability to reach the airport for their scheduled flights and challenges in communicating with airlines to amend their travel plans.

In light of this exceptional situation, and to uphold Sri Lanka’s commitment to visitor safety and welfare, authorities have been advised to facilitate the following for all affected tourists:

  1. Full Waiver of Flight Cancellation and Date Change Charges for passengers who need to reschedule their
flights due to these weather-related disruptions.
  2. Flexible Rebooking Policies to allow affected passengers to adjust their travel dates with minimal hassle.
  3. Simplified Verification Process, where a passenger’s declaration of being a tourist affected by the weather
may be accepted as sufficient evidence to qualify for the waiver.
