COLOMBO : Embassy of Indonesia in Colombo, supported by some related authorities in Sri Lanka , is holding a Bamboo Training for the craftsmen from the Sabaragamuwa Province from June 24 to July 8,
For this the Indonesian Embassy invited two highly skilled bamboo crafters from Bambu Bos Indonesia to share their knowledge and expertise on the bamboo construction to the Sri Lankan bamboo craftsmen in that area.
Delivering her remarks in the opening ceremony in Yatiyantotha, Sunday (23/6), Indonesian ambassador Dewi Gustina Tobing expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all parties who have supported this program, namely the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tharaka Balasuriya, the National Craft Council, the Divisional Secretary of Sabaragamuwa Province, SriLankan Airlines, and Bambu Bos, Indonesia. She also emphasized the significance of this training in enhancing the skills and capacities of Sri Lankan SMEs, thereby contributing to the economic recovery and sustainable development of Sri Lanka.
Scheduled from June 24 to July 8, 2024, the workshop aims to train 25 participants in bamboo craftsmanship, with a specific focus on constructing bamboo buildings.
The welcoming event is also attended by Sampath Erahapola, Chairman of National Crafts Council of Sri Lanka, Samantha as the representative of SriLankan Airlines, and Divisional Secretary Sabaragamuwa Province, Priyangani Pethangoda whose support has been instrumental in organizing the workshop.
Furthermore, Ambassador Tobing said that the workshop is organized by Indonesian Embassy in Colombo to signify the continued cooperation between Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives (SMESCO) Indonesia and the National Crafts Council of Sri Lanka signed in 2017. She also hopes that this kind of program could be continued in the future. Meanwhile the Chairman of National Crafts Council of Sri Lanka expressed his gratitude to this initiative and willingness to have the training for craftsmen from other part of Sri Lanka.
During the 2 weeks program, the Indonesian trainers will give not only the technical practices from choosing the right bamboo for construction, but also how to bend the bamboo, bamboo joints technique until the construction training. At the end of the program i that the Sri Lankan craftsmen can build an umbrella style bamboo construction.
