Indian gem delegation visits China Fort in Sri Lanka

BERUWELA — A significant industry delegation visited the Ceylon Gem and Jewellery Traders Association (CGJTA) Secretariat in Beruwala and the Chinafort Gem Market on Saturday June 6, with the objective of enhancing cooperation between the gem and jewellery sectors of India and Sri Lanka.

The delegation included Surya Narayanan, Regional Director (Chennai) of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), India, and Rathinaraja Saravanan, President of the Sea Street Jewellers Association, Sri Lanka. During the visit, they met with the Chairman Rizwan Nayeem and Executive Committee members of the Ceylon Gem and Jewellery Traders Association (CGJTA).

The primary purpose of the visit was to promote the upcoming IIJS Premiere 2026, one of the world’s leading jewellery exhibitions to be held in Mumbai, India, and Gem Sri Lanka – 4th Edition, Sri Lanka’s premier international gem and jewellery exhibition.

As part of the programme, the delegation toured the renowned Chinafort Gem Market in Beruwala and visited several industry-related institutions, including gem training centres, gemological laboratories, and other key facilities connected to the gemstone trade.

Discussions focused on Sri Lanka’s rich gem resources, quality assurance practices, training opportunities, and emerging prospects in the global gemstone market. The representatives also exchanged information regarding IIJS Premiere 2026 and explored avenues to further strengthen trade relations and business partnerships between Indian and Sri Lankan gem and jewellery traders.

In addition, discussions were held on increasing the participation of Indian gem and jewellery businessmen at Gem Sri Lanka – 4th Edition, further reinforcing bilateral cooperation and promoting greater regional engagement within the international gem and jewellery industry.

The visit marked another important step towards fostering stronger ties between the gem and jewellery sectors of India and Sri Lanka while creating new opportunities for trade, investment, and industry development.
