ICC Men’s T20 WC: Opening match – Host Oman wins opening match with ease

MUSCAT: The ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup commenced today with the ‘Round 1’ matches.

The first match between cohost Oman and Papua New Guinea (PNG) saw Oman celebrating in style winning by 10 wickets with 38 balls to spare. Oman’s Zeeshan Maqsood took 4 for 20 runs off his 4 overs while Bilal Khan & Kaleemullah got 2 wickets each to restrict PNG to 129 for 9 wickets off 20 overs.

Chasing the modest total of 129, the Oman openers were on a mission to reach the target in a hurry. Openers Jatinder Singh scored 73 not out (42 balls) and Aaqib Ilyas 50 not out (43 balls) to reach 131 in the 13th over.

Oman’s Zeeshan Maqsood was adjudged the player of the match.
