ICC Men’s T20 WC: Match 23– Andrea Russell bowls defending champions to a win against Bangladesh by 3 runs

SHARJAH: Super 12s – Defending champions West Indies successfully defended the score of 142 due to tight bowling at the end overs and Andrea Russell bravely bowling the last over for only 9 runs when 13 was required for a win.

West Indies batting first reached 142 for 7 wickets for 20 overs with the help of Nicholas Pooran’s quick fire 40 off 22 balls. Earlier Roston Chase batted well for 39 runs. Bangladesh bowlers overall bowled economically. Mahedi Hasan, M.Rahman and Shoriful Islam picked up 2 wickets each

Chasing the Windies score, Bangladesh’s both openers were out and they were in a spot of bother at 29-2. Linton Das played well along with captain Mahmudullah to navigate Bangladesh. However, Das’s wicket was picked up by Bravo when score was 130 runs which upset the Bangladesh run chase.

Needing 13 runs in the last over, the new batsman Asif Hossain had to face Andrea Russell. Top class bowling by Andrea Russell (1 for 29 runs) limited the run flow in the over with Mahmudullah needing 4 runs in the last ball was only able to scamper for a run. West Indies grabs the win from Bangladesh by 3 runs to collect its first 2 points in the Super 12s. (RZ)
