Health minister suggests Shramadana campaigns to clean classrooms before reopening of schools

COLOMBO: In preparation for the re-opening of schools,Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella urged respective authorities  to organize ‘Shramadana’ clean-up campaigns to set up hygienic environment in the classrooms.

The minister was speaking to parents, teachers and other relevant parties to conduct the cleaning programmes prior to the recommencement of schools.

Accordingly, schools with less than 200 students will be re-opened on 21 October of this month, however the Minister said that plans are also afoot to reopen schools in the Western Province for the A/L and O/L grades after having extensive discussions between the Health and Education Ministries.

He also requested the schools development committees, Government officials, public representatives including the parents of the students to organize a ‘Shramadana’ clean-up campaign prior to the reopening of the schools to carry out the academic activities without any hindrances.
