As Sri Lanka celebrated its 74th anniversary of the proclamation of Independence, a number of world leaders, Heads of State and Government, Foreign Ministers and Legislators extended their well wishes and greetings to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the Government and the people of Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh President Mohammad Abdul Hamid says that “Bangladesh deeply values its warm relations with Sri Lanka rooted in shared history and commonalities in culture, traditions, and values. I believe the long standing friendly relations and close cooperation between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be further strengthened in the years ahead for mutual benefit of our two people.
“We look forward to working together in the coming years towards realizing the shared vision of building a peaceful and prosperous region”.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom: “As you celebrate the important occasion of your Independence Day, I would like to congratulate Your Excellency, and send my good wishes to the people of Sri Lanka. As we overcome global health challenges together, with determination and fortitude, may we look to better times in the future.”
President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping issued a congratulatory message on the occasion of Sri Lanka’s Independence Day.
The Chinese President stated that “The friendship between China and Sri Lanka dates back to ancient times. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, our relationship has withstood the test of changing international situations, maintained consistent sound and steady development, and become an extraordinary example of friendly co-existence and win-win cooperation between countries regardless of the size”.
The Chinese President further said that “I attach great importance to the development of China-Sri Lanka relations, and stand ready to continue working with you to promote the strategic cooperative partnership between our two countries featuring sincere mutual assistance and enduring friendship up to a new level”.
Indian President Ram Nath Kovind said, “India and Sri Lanka are close neighbours and have common heritage, interests and values. Our age-old ties have strengthened and grown over the years to become truly multifaceted,”.
Meanwhile, in a message to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India and Sri Lanka share a close and cordial relationship based on shared heritage and common values. “I look forward to working closely with Your Excellency to further strengthen our mutually beneficial and close bilateral cooperation in all spheres. India remains committed to working with Sri Lanka in our joint fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on health and economy. I once again take this opportunity to convey my best wishes for the happiness and prosperity to Your Excellency and the friendly people of Sri Lanka.”
President of South Korea Moon Jae-in says that “Over the years, our two countries have built friendly ties of partnership in wide ranges of areas. I hope to further advance the relations between our two countries and promote friendship”.
Pakistan President Dr. Arif Alvi, says that “Since our two countries gained independence, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have been close friends and partners. We continue to attach high priority to our relations with Sri Lanka and would like to see them further deepen in all areas of cooperation to our mutual benefit”.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan says that “Pakistan attaches great importance to traditionally cordial bilateral ties with Sri Lanka. It is my earnest wish that these close ties of friendship and cooperation between our two countries continue to deepen further, as we jointly strive to achieve the common objectives of development, security and prosperity of our peoples”.
President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Xuân Phúc states that “I appreciate the tremendous and comprehensive achievements Sri Lanka has recorded in recent years despite the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. I am confident that, under Your Excellency’s wise leadership, the Sri Lankan people will obtain even greater successes in the coming years, triumphing over the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to further enhancing Sri Lanka’s role and position in the region and in the world”.
President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Diaz-canel Bermudez: “I extend you the most cordials congratulations on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the proclamation of Independence of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
