COLOMBO – The Association of Islamic Charitable Projects Sri Lanka held its Grand Mawlid Commemoration on Sunday September 13 at the BMICH, Colombo, bringing together religious scholars, community leaders, professionals and members of the public.
The Guest of Honour was Dr. Sheikh Ibrahim El-Shafie, Deputy Chairman of Darul Fatwa – Islamic High Council of Australia, who addressed the gathering on the values and teachings of Prophet Muhammad
- The event was honoured by the presence of Maithripala Sirisena, former President of Sri Lanka, and Sheikh Arkam Nooramith, General Secretary of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama.
- The central message of the gathering was “Upon His Path We Live: Social Responsibility and Moderation,” highlighting the importance of living by the Prophet’s teachings through responsible conduct, moderation and positive contribution to society.
- The programme combined traditional and modern Nashid performances, with The Harmony Band and a special live performance by Adam Ali, using Islamic devotional art as a meaningful way to connect with people across generations.
- The gathering reflected AICP Sri Lanka’s wider commitment to religious education, community service, youth development, social harmony and the promotion of moderation and responsible citizenship.
