Govt. distributes dry relief packs to residents of isolated Obeysekerapura Town

COLOMBO: Authorities distributed dry rations to families in Obeysekerapura, which is under lockdown in Rajagiriya police  division on Tuesday, July 6.

Obeysekerapura,grama sevaka division which is located within the Kotte Divisional Secretariat was isolated on July 3 following the detection of a few cases of Covid patients.

The large packs of dry rations were being distributed among 3,000 families in the area. Each pack costing Rs 5,000 included rice, sugar, flour, dhall, all types of curry powder, biscuits, tea leaves, milk powder and other needed grocery items.

Speaking to Colombo Times, Fathima said the government’s assistance is much appreciated since all the shops in the area have been completely closed down and people will run out of their stock in a few days.

Sirisena, said the distribution is timely and it made the area people happy when they are all distressed due to the lockdown. He said the pack included all the essentials for home use.

The distribution took place at several points in the Obeysekerapura Town, from morning till evening on Tuesday. The new Grama Sevaka  of the area, S. Koddikkara and social service worker P Prabath streamlined operations in the area.
