COLOMBO : Government will take necessary steps to impose price controls on rice and sugar from Thursday,September 02, State Minister of Co-operative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna told newsmen here on Wednesday, Sept.1
Speaking to the media, the state minister explained that the government intends provide essential products, especially rice and sugar, to the consumers at reasonable prices.
Speaking further, the state minister said the large volumes of sugar seized stashed away in warehouses will be sold through Sathosa and Co-operative outlets.
In the meantime, one kilogram of brown sugar was sold for Rs. 130 through these outlets from Wednesday, he added.
