G.M.R.D. Aponsu Appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Energy

COLOMBO : President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed Mr G.M.R.D. Aponsu as Secretary to the Ministry of Energy.

The letter of appointment was presented to him this Friday afternoon on April (17) at the Presidential Secretariat by Presidential Secretary Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.

Mr G.M.R.D. Aponsu, who previously served as Senior Additional Secretary to the President on Finance and Economic Affairs, is a senior officer of the Sri Lanka Planning Service (SLPS).

He is an official with extensive experience in the fields of national planning, public financial management, macroeconomic forecasting, development financing, financial analysis, tax policy and higher education planning.

Accordingly, while serving as Head of the Finance and Economic Affairs Division of the Presidential Secretariat, he has provided strategic policy guidance on economic governance and national development priorities.

Mr G.M.R.D. Aponsu received his primary education at Lunawa Roman Catholic School and Moratuwa Uyana Primary School. He completed his junior secondary education at B/Keppetipola Maha Vidyalaya and his senior secondary education at St Joseph’s College, Bandarawela.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Special) degree in Physics from the University of Ruhuna (1994), a postgraduate qualification in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Colombo, and a postgraduate degree in Economics from the Australian National University. He has also obtained a postgraduate qualification in Development Studies from IDEAS (Institute of Developing Economies Advanced School), Japan, as well as a postgraduate degree in Economics from the Australian National University.

During his public service career, he has served in several key institutions, including the National Planning Department, the National Budget Department and the Inland Revenue Department, as well as in the Ministry of Education.

In addition, he has served as an Assistant Lecturer in Physics at the University of Ruhuna, and as a visiting lecturer and senior consultant in Planning and Development Economics at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA). He has also served as a visiting lecturer in Project Management for postgraduate programmes at the Institute of Human Resource Advancement (IHRA) of the University of Colombo.
