COLOMBO : The Ministry of Trade is to launch a program to provide essential food items through Lanka Sathosa with the aim of providing relief to the people affected by the pandemic .

The Sathosa (CWE) will commence the program from Friday, August 20 to deliver a relief bag containing 20 essential food items at a cost of Rs. 1998, the Trade Ministry said.

Customers can avail themselves of this service by calling Toll No 1998 .

The relief bag worth Rs. 2,600 will be provided at a price of Rs. 1998, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena said at a media briefing on Thursday, August 19.

The items in the bag include rice, wheat flour, noodles, red lentils, sugar, tea, sprats, soy meat, chili peppers, peppercorns, and a few other items. The CWE says that 03 masks, a packet of soap, biscuits and papadam are also included in the essential food bag.

People can call the 1998 hotline and have the relief bag delivered at their doorstep without transport charges.
