Former State Minister Ali Zahir Mowlana bereaved

COLOMBO- Former State Minister and MP for Batticaloa, Ali Zahir Mowlana’s brother  Al-Haj As-Seyed Abdul Bari Zahir Moulana, co-proprietor of Moulana Gems and philanthropist  passed away peacefully in Colombo on Thursday June.

Bari Moulana, a gem trader by occupation, was renowned for his calm and quiet demeanour who together with his two younger brothers, former Minister Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana & Seyed Ahamed Zahir Moulana were one of the foremost philanthropists who worked in the field with distressed communities starting with the Batticaloa cyclone in 1978, assisting displaced and aggrieved families during the peak of the civil conflict from the late 1980s onwards.

He was the beloved husband of Shereefa Haniya Moulana and loving father of Seyed Irshard Zahir Moulana, Seyed Mohammed Zahir Moulana & Shereefa Sumaiya Zahir Moulana.

He was the loving son of Marhoom As-Seyed Mohamed Zahir Moulana and Marhooma Zubeidah Zahir Moulana.

He was the loving brother of Seyed Abdur-Rahuman Zahir Moulana (retired Principal), Seyed Ahamed Zahir Moulana (co-proprietor of Moulana Gems), Seyed Ali Zahir Moulana (former Minister & former MP for Batticaloa), Shereefa Sheha Yaseen Moulana, Shereefa Aneesa Moulana, Shereefa Alaviya Moulana & Shereefa Ameera Moulana.

An old boy of Kattankudy Central College, the late Mowlana graduated in religious studies from the Al-Falah Madrasah in Kattankudy.

Janaza arrangements will be announced by the family shortly, in keeping with the current precautions in place for COVID-19.
