Former minister Rishad Bathiudeen screams in parliament : “Hang me if I had wronged, but don’t revenge me for my political ideologies ”
COLOMBO : Former minister Rishad Bathuideen, who is currently on detention orders, told parliament that the government can hang him if he has committed a crime but it should not take revenge on him for his political ideologies.
Bathiudeen, who was arrested three weeks ago on charges unknown to him, was given an opportunity by the Speaker to attend parliament on Tuesday.
Thanking the speaker for the opportunity given, Bathiudeen said it was sad the way the police came and arrested him without proper warrant. “ This should not happen to a member of a parliament who had represented his electorate at four consecutive elections,” he stressed.
“ I belong to a Muslim minority group which enjoys a few members in the legislature, I should be respected for my services to the nation,” he said, recalling that several inquiries conducted against him came out with negative results and they concluded that he is free of such allegations.”
