Former LSSP Municipal Councillor Zarook passes away at 87

COLOMBO – Former Colombo Municipal Councillor and father of Riza MMC.,M.S.M.Zarook from Maligawatte, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning,May 30.

Mohammed Shafie Mohammed Zarook,87,was a member of the Colombo Municipal Council for three consecutive periods covering 12 years representing the Sri Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP) in the 60s. 

Zarook who was a member of the Central Committee of the Party had also contested Puttalam electoral against the former Finance Minister Naina  Marikar unsuccessfully. Zarook, who was an old boy of Colombo Zahira College, was also an executive member of the Maligawatte Jumma  Mosque.

Zarook had been a prominent social worker in Maligawatte and was popular in his area by way of his sincere services to residents irrespective of race or religion.

Zarook who was admitted to the Lanka Hospitals for heart ailments was proved positive for Covid Virus and his remains are being taken for final rites to burial grounds in Oddamawady in the Eastern Province.

He is survived by his wife Ruheena ,five sons and three daughters.
