COLOMBO : The North-East Coordinating Committee (NECC) recently conducted two community dialogue sessions aimed at strengthening harmony between the Tamil and Muslim communities.
As 35 years have passed since the forced eviction of Northern Muslims in the 1990s, representatives from eight districts across the Northern and Eastern Provinces participated in these discussions to enhance mutual understanding, social cohesion, and cooperation.
On 01 November 2025, over 200 social activists, religious leaders, human rights defenders, and journalists attended the dialogue held at the Thanthai Selva Hall in Jaffna. Discussions focused on rebuilding trust and addressing historical issues.
The second discussion took place on 08 November 2025 at the Miani Hall in Batticaloa, with the participation of more than 450 individuals. Participants exchanged views on regional challenges, inter-communal harmony, and peaceful coexistence.
Both events were organized with the objective of strengthening long-term peace and social integration.
