COLOMBO : On the morning of 21 October 2025, the Embassy of Viet Nam in Sri Lanka held a special ceremony to announce and grant full scholarships from the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT), Hanoi to five outstanding Sri Lankan students.
This is the first time that the PTIT has granted full scholarships to Sri Lanka. The comprehensive scholarship package covers one year of Vietnamese language training and five years of undergraduate engineering studies, along with tuition fees, accommodation, living expenses, health insurance, and round-trip airfare.
The selected academic programs are closely aligned with Sri Lanka’s socio-economic priorities and PTIT’s areas of expertise, including Information Technology, Information Security, Artificial Intelligence, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, and Internet of Things (IoT) Technology.
In her remarks at the ceremony, H.E. Trinh Thi Tam, Ambassador Viet Nam to Sri Lanka highlighted the significance of the initiative:
“The Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) is a prestigious institution and one of Viet Nam’s leading centers in ICT education. Its programs are highly relevant to Sri Lanka’s current development needs and government priorities. I believe that, beyond gaining academic and professional knowledge, these students will also have the opportunity to explore Viet Nam’s culture and people, and become bridges fostering cooperation and friendship between our two nations.”
The Ambassador affirmed the Embassy’s commitment to further advancing educational cooperation — an area with immense potential for collaboration between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka. She also expressed appreciation to PTIT for its close coordination with the Embassy in implementing the program, which contributes to consolidating the traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership between the two countries.
The scholarship awardees hail from various localities of Sri Lanka including Kandy, Matara, and Ambakote. They were selected for their strong academic performance and motivation to pursue advanced education in Viet Nam.
One of the scholarship recipients, Mr. Viduka Gimhana Dhammage from Kandy, shared:
“I am deeply moved to have been selected for this life-changing opportunity. This scholarship will allow us to build our knowledge and skills in technology — a field of growing importance for Sri Lanka. I will strive to live up to the trust placed in us by the Government and people of Viet Nam.”
Mrs. Ho Thi My Ai, mother of student Chandrasooriya Jinali Thawinsa, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Viet Nam, the Embassy, and PTIT for granting their children the opportunity to study in Viet Nam. She shared that, beyond receiving an education, this experience would enable the students to build a lasting connection with her beloved homeland.
The Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology has designed a tailored academic pathway for Sri Lankan students, combining theoretical learning with practical training and global digital competencies. The scholarship initiative is the result of effective cooperation between the Embassy of Vietnam in Sri Lanka and PTIT, and stands as a vivid symbol of friendship, solidarity, and shared vision between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka.
Education serves as a sustainable tool of diplomacy — fostering trust, people-to-people connections, and a solid foundation for future strategic cooperation toward sustainable development and the well-being of younger generations in both countries.
