COLOMBO ; The annual journalist awards for excellence , organized by the Sri Lanka Newspaper Editors’ Conference and the Sri Lanka Press Institute, was held on Tuesday, Jan. 7
The event, which marked its 25th anniversary in 2024, held at the Mount Lavinia Beach Hotel under the patronage of Kumar Nadesan and Siriya Ranasinghe, co-chairmen of the institutions.
Former Professor Savitri Gunasekara attended the event as a guest.
This time, it is noteworthy that 5 senior journalists in the field of journalism were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Gold Award. Senior journalists Chandrika Wijesundara, N.M. Amin, Benat Rupasinghe, Zanita Careem and Yogamuthi.
They received the Lifetime Achievement Awards by the editors-in-chief of the newspapers.
In addition, awards were presented to the best journalists in 20 fields, including the Mervyn Silva Award for the best journalists of the year in trilingual newspapers published in Sri Lanka, the Upali Wijewardene Award, the Subramaniam Chettiar Award, the Professor Kailasapathy Award, and the D.R. Wijewardene Award.
Awards were also given to the best Investigative Reporter, Breaking News Award, Best Health Award, Best Sports News Award, Designer Award, Best Cartoon, Best Photographer, Best Online News Award, Best Video Creation, Best Columnist, Best Business Award.
Awards were also presented to those who submitted their best works from Tamil newspapers such as Veerakesari, Dinakaran, Tamilan, Vidivelli, Dinakural, and Tamil Mirror.
