Finance Minister Sabry resigns from his post and pledges to quit from his parliamentary seat too if necessary  

COLOMBO : Newly appointed Finance Minister Ali Sabry has withdrawn from his position after tendering his resignation letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Tuesday, April 5

In a letter dated April 5, Sabry recalled that when he resigned from his position as Minister of Justice, he had no intentions of taking up any other ministerial portfolio.

Sabry also pointed out that he only took up the position as an interim measure until a cabinet is formed, whereas he now believes that steps need to be taken to appoint a new and fresh Finance Minister.

He additionally mentioned that,in case, his parliamentary seat would need to be taken to appoint a new Finance Minister, Sabry would step down from his seat willingly.

Sabry concluded his resignation letter by stating that his decisions in the past and his current decision was only in the best interest of the country.
