Father Visits Namal in Prison

COLOMBO – Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says it cannot be stated with certainty whether the arrest and remand of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa amounts to political revenge.

He made the statement this evening after visiting the New Magazine Prison in Borella to inquire about the well-being of Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody.

The former President also said that steps will be taken to secure bail for Namal Rajapaksa.

Yesterday morning, Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa, who was arrested by the Bribery Commission, was remanded until the 18th of September after being presented to court.

This was in connection with an investigation regarding an alleged bribe of 100 million rupees taken during the deal to purchase aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.
