EVENTS AT THE MISSION

CULTURAL AND CHARITY BAZAAR AT THE EMBASSY PREMISES ON 1st  OCTOBER 2022

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Colombo in partnership with the Sri Lanka-Indonesia Friendship Association (SLIFA) organized a Cultural and Charity Bazaar on Saturday, 1st October 2022 at the premises of the Embassy of Indonesia, to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Sri Lanka and  30th Anniversary of SLIFA.

The Cultural and Charity Bazaar had over 50 trade stalls, displaying and selling a wide range of cuisine from Indonesia and Sri Lanka in addition to jewellery, clothing, batiks, household items, handicrafts, cosmetics, fancy items, etc.  

Her Excellency Dewi Gustina Tobing, Ambassador of Indonesia in Sri Lanka and as the Patron of SLIFA, opened the Bazaar and conveyed this Cultural Show and Bazaar was an opportunity to showcase the various dance forms and culture of the two countries. The longstanding relationship has grown over the 70 years and such events helps to further foster such relationships. All proceeds of the Committee from this event were donated to charity to the Sri Lankan in need.

On this occasion, Ambassador Dewi congratulated 30th Anniversary of SLIFA since year 1992 and appreciated SLIFA through this event to strengthen relationship between Indonesia and Sri Lanka in commemorating the 70th Anniversary Diplomatic Relations of both countries. 

The Secretary to the Minister of Foreign affairs of Sri Lanka, Ms Aruni Wijewardane commended the Indonesian Embassy and SLIFA for organizing such an event which helps the people of the two countries understand the diversified culture in the two countries. 

The cultural show featured various dance, music and song performances from Indonesia and Sri Lanka. There were songs, instrumental and dance performances which lasted the entire day. It was an entertaining day for the large numbers who visited the event.

The invitees and visitors were also engaged with sessions of playing the Angklung a musical instrument from Indonesia, Indonesian dance workshop, and performing the Indonesian Poco-Poco Dance and Maumere Song followed by visitors.

At the charity bazaar, the Indonesian Embassy in Colombo took part in the Kebaya Campaign by involving the Indonesian Woman Association (DWP) and the Indonesian community in Sri Lanka, so that it can be recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. The Indonesian women feel that they have their own pride in wearing the kebaya considering that kebaya is part of the Indonesian women’s tradition.

This year, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Colombo together with  the Sri Lanka-Indonesia Friendship Association (SLIFA) will hold a Cultural and Charity Bazaar on Saturday, 2nd September 2023 at the premises of the Embassy of Indonesia.

CHARITY PROGRAM

The proceeds of the Committee from this Bazaar donated to charity to the Sri Lankan in need. On 29-31 January 2023, the Embassy of Indonesia and SLIFA organized the Social Service Project by distributing dry rations packs to deserving Sri Lankan families in Trincomalee and Kandy. The Social Service projects were also done in August, October, November and December 2022. The deserving families in Colombo, Moratuwa, Mattegoda, Hambantota, Hatton and Maskeliya were among the recipients, from communities of Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Malay Sri Lankan.
