COLOMBO : Eng. Naseer Ahamed, M.P Minister of Environment has thanked the Saudi government and its embassy in Colombo for providing dates to all the mosques in Sri Lanka.
In a letter addressed to Khalid Hamoud Nasser Aldasam Alkahtani,Ambassador of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the minister had expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation over the recent donation of the large consignment of dates by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka.
“As a Muslim Minister in the Government,” the minister said, : “ I laud that the Kingdom has so generously donated a consignment of 50 tons of dates to the government of Sri Lanka, in addition to donating another consignment of 15 tons directly by the Embassy.
“ The dates you donated reached thousands of most needy families in different parts of the country helping them in their nutritional and customary needs, particularly during this holy month of Ramadan where the Muslim community is observing fasting.
I also wish to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to the Kingdom of SaudiArabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister – may Almighty God protect them – for all the assistance provided to the Sri Lankan people.
This is also a magnanimous gesture on the part of the Kingdom by standing with brotherly and friendly peoples in various circumstances and tribulations, symbolising the strong relations between the Kingdom and the friendly Republic of Sri Lanka.”
