LCOLIMBO – The Embassy of Nepal in Colombo hosted a Cultural Interaction and Book Launch program on Monday September 28 at the Embassy premises, bringing together writers, artists, business and cultural personalities, and distinguished guests to promote cultural exchange and strengthen the longstanding friendship between Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The program featured the launch of The Essence of the Everest, authored by Dr. Nirmal Kumar Thapa, President of Nepal Centre International and Colour Nepal. The event provided an opportunity to celebrate Nepal’s rich cultural heritage and literary contributions while fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration between cultural communities of the two countries.
The program commenced with traditional lighting of the oil lamp, symbolizing wisdom and the spirit of friendship. Sagar Bhandari, First Secretary of the Embassy of Nepal expressed his reviews on “The Essence of the Everest” book. The official launch of “The Essence of the Everest” was marked by the presentation of the book to invited guests. A video on the “Sagarmatha to Sea” showcased at the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) was also screened during the program.
Delivering the keynote address, Vijay Kumar Raut, Charge’ d’ Affaires of the Embassy of Nepal in Colombo, highlighted the importance of cultural diplomacy, people to people ties and spirituality while highlighting important phrases from the featured book “The Essence of the Everest”.
Dr. Nirmal Kumar Thapa presented a reading from his book, offering guests insights into its themes and reflections on the Mount Everest as an enduring symbol of Nepal’s natural and cultural identity. In his remarks, Dr. Thapa shared insights into his book and emphasized the importance of cultural exchange, literary engagement and the promotion of Nepal’s heritage and identity among international audiences.
The program also featured an interactive session, during which participants exchanged views on opportunities for enhanced cooperation in literature and people-to-people engagement.
The event concluded with the presentation of a token of appreciation to Dr. Thapa in recognition of his contribution to literature and cultural engagement, followed by a vote of thanks.
