Eid prayers disallowed at Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid

SRINAGAR : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Hindutva regime has disallowed Muslims from offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on Saturday.

Indian army troops, paramilitary and police personnel were deployed in Nowhatta areas of the city to prevent people from offering Eid prayers in the grand mosque of the territory.

Earlier, people raised “Go India Go Back” and “We Want Freedom” slogans during Fajar prayers toda. Similar slogans were raised during Isha prayers outside the mosque.

Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, the managing body of the historic mosque, already had announced that Eid-ul-Fitr prayer would be held at 9:00a.m while the regime after wards denied permission.

Grand Mufti of Kashmir Mufti Nasirul Islam in a statement issued in Srinagar, today, denounced the Indian authorities for disallowing Eid congregation at Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid.

Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid Srinagar in a statement also expressed strong resentment against the disallowing of the Eid prayer at the Masjid. The statement said that police and civil authorities informed them late night that Eid prayers would only be allowed at Jamia Masjid.
